This much cherished 20-30 foot tree is native to the woodlands and thickets of the northeastern United States. Masses of stunning pea-like magenta flowers on bare branches in spring are followed by long-lasting brown pods in fall. Pretty blue-green heart shaped leaves turn pale-yellow in fall; a much-loved favorite. Cercis is a nitrogen fixing plant. S-PSh/M
