Narrow, smooth-margined leaves are bluish-green above and pale-green and lightly fuzzy beneath. Becomes a lovely broad 50-80' tree with a rounded crown. The brownish- gray juvenile bark becomes very dark-grey with age and develops a rough scaly ridging. Water oak is native to the southeastern United States, typically found in low woodlands, floodplains and along streams and rivers. Its broad ½" acorns feature short-stalked cups with woolly scales and are a valuable source of food for wildlife. S/M-W
