This prized tree is native to floodplains, swamps and ponds of the southeastern United States. It is sometimes found growing with water oaks, bald cypress and cottonwood trees, a mix that is lovely when recreated at the ponds edge. Long valued for its brilliant fall color and its superior honey. This 50-80' (rarely 100') tree also features fine grained wood used for furniture and flooring. Nyssa aquatica is similar to N. sylvatica, but features larger leaves and fruit. This tree is wonderful for its ability to tolerate even standing water in difficult sites; so water loving it is named for Nysa, one the of water nymphs. S/M-W
