Large, bright-green apples irregularly splashed and striped with red are tender, crisp, juicy; delicious eaten fresh and perhaps the best pie fruit ever! This late-season antique apple was developed in New York around 1800. This is a pretty 12-18' tree for the home orchard with its lovely white spring flowers. Needs a pollinizer for fruit set, Gala, Fuji and Spitzenburg are good choices; recommended chill hours: 1,000. S/M
