The large fruit of this handsome 20-30' eastern native tree comes after odd-looking maroon flowers bloom on its bare branches (the fetid smelling flowers are pollinated by flies!). The banana-ish flavored fruit has green skin and orange flesh and generally ripens in September; pawpaw fruit is very nutritious and has been used in cancer therapy. 'Wells' was found in Salem, In 1990 by David Wells; requires another variety for pollination. PSh-S/M
