Selected by E. H. Wilson in Korea, this variety of the Silk Tree has dense fluffy clusters of bright-pink flowers which bloom from July into September and its growth habit differs from the straight species in that it is wider spreading, branching out at ground level and staying wider than tall, its most notable difference is that it is reputed to be more cold hardy by 10 degrees, greatly extending its range; there is a wonderful specimen growing at the Arnold Arboretum in Massachusetts. Customer Reviews

unsure about the hardiness Review by nick
I bought this plant a year ago or so and planted it in the spring of 2017. It grew very quickly, over doubling in size and looking very healthy. Unfortunately this spring it was killed back from three feet to a few inches above the ground. I live in zone 5b/6a in the Great Lakes region of New York and it wasn't an unusually cold winter nor is the plant in an extremely exposed area. It has bounded back and is growing quite quickly but my hopes of it flowering this year are likely dashed. Im going to hope that maybe it was due to the transplant and it adjusting to its new environment or else the plant won't be very attractive if it is going to get killed to the ground every year.
